a. About the committee

The student welfare committee aims at the overall development of individual students, focusing on their personal growth. Students come from various strata of the society, representing varied cultures and contexts. Their needs are thus diverse in nature. The college has devised programs to identify these needs and also has varied provisions in place. The needs of individual students are addressed via mentoring, a robust system of the college.

 The committee provides specific facilities to the students as given below:

1.Personal and career Counselling (FACE, career guidance programs)

Personal Counselling :  The college has a Family and Child Enrichment Center (FACE) which, in collaboration with Anubhuti Psychological Consultancy Services provides psychological testing, developmental and psycho-education, counselling for teenagers, adolescents and adults. There are free counselling sessions for students.

Career guidance It is provided at the center.

Specialization Specific Career guidance: The departments also organise for the final year students in order to guide them about the future career prospects.

2. Doctor on Call 

  • The institute has tied up with nearby doctors who would be available in case of any emergency

3. Mentoring 

The Sir Vithaldas Thackersey College of Home Science (Autonomous) has initiated a multiprong mentoring program to promote inclusiveness, mental health and well-being. The college has a strong mentoring program to help students, who lack  proper guidance, support and direction in their academic as well as personal lives. The college uses a proactive approach wherein the mentors actively take steps to reach out to each and every student to ensure early identification. This is done through 3 practices:

  • Developing a Mentor-mentee relationship
  • Sensitization programs/practices
  • Preventive counselling.

The college has a robust intervention system to help the students and the outcome so far has been satisfying.

4. Advance and slow learners 

  • Programs for Slow Learners- Students who have attained less than 50 % in their last Annual Assessment
  • Remedial coaching

Slow learners are provided remedial teaching in small groups, where their doubts are cleared. They are given practice of writing answers to questions from previous years question papers

  • A repository has been built with Video Recording and study material for difficult topics, and shared with students to review it repeatedly and at their own pace

5. Parent teacher meetings:Parent meetings are organised once in every semester for all the departments. It is a platform for interaction of parents with the teacher to know about the progress of their child.

6. Student’s Development Workshops:The Student’s Welfare committee organizes a series of student’s Development workshop during the academic year.

7. Earn While you Learn Scheme

This is a scheme initiated by the college specifically for students who wish to support their education themselves. Under this scheme they con support the college by putting in certain work hours as per the need of individual departments. A stipulated amount per hour as per the college decision is paid.

b. Scholarships (inhouse, govt., private, earn n learn)

Policy for disbursement of Scholarships

The college has a policy of supporting students and their educational aspirations. The college thus has a Student Welfare Committee which ensures students’ welfare through developmental approach from the day of entry till they exit the college.

The college has three types of scholarships provided to the students

  1. Government 
  2. Institutional 
  3. Non-governmental 
  1. Government Scholarship

The college has registered on the Mahadbt portal of the Maharashtra state government and on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The eligible students are oriented to the process of application and are encouraged to apply for the different government scholarship schemes. Regular follow up with students for the completion of the process is done.

  1. Institutional Scholarship

The college has two scholarship schemes for financial support to the students.

  1. College Student Aid Fund:

Eligibility criteria

  • Family Income
  • Genuine Economic reasons for first generation learners  ( First child getting formal education)

Documents to be submitted:

  • Ration Card Xerox 1st and last page.
  • Bank Pass Book Xerox,(last 12 month)
  • Last year passing Mark sheet.
  • Income Certificate (financial year) from Tehashildar Office /Undertaking & Proof of occupation from employer/Affidavit
  • Fee Receipt Xerox
  1. Non Governmental Scholarship
  1. New Work Center for Women: This is an NGO which has given money to the college which has been deposited in the bank, the interest earned each year is given as scholarship money. Only SY students are eligible for this scholarship amount.
  2. Sir Vithaldas Thackersey Trust Scholarship: The college every year approaches the Thackersey trust with a list of students who are selected through a specific procedure
  3. PFNDAI Merit cum Means Scholarship: Protein Foods & Nutrition Development of India, Mumbai. This is an organization which supports students who score high and are in need of financial assistance.
  • The department of Food Nutrition and Dietetics is asked to identify names of three good students from the graduate program, who are in need of financial assistance.
  • Once the names are sent they are called for interviews by the organization.
  • The organization then selects one candidate from among the three based on the interview.
  1. Dr K U Naram Award for toppers in academics: Dr. K. U. Naram Award , Sponsored by Naram Food Products, Association Of Food Scientists & Technologists (India)
  • First two toppers from graduate program, department of Food Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Toppers of Masters in Specialized Dietetics, one from each of the three super specialty.

Note: The institutional scholarship, Student Aid Fund and Non Governmental Scholarship New Work Center for Women are given to students from open category who require financial support.
