My name is Sara Merchant and I am quite proudly an alumnus of SVT College from Food Nutrition and Dietetics department (2017 - 2020). I am writing this as I sit at my desk in one of the biggest hospitals in the United Kingdom, one where Malala Youfzai was flown in from Pakistan to receive treatment. I say this not to highlight the importance of this hospital, but to thank you and the institute to make me competent enough to be able to work here.    It was only 18 months ago that I relocated to the UK. I was anxious and apprehensive of what my professional life would be like miles away from where I thought I would build my career. I was naive to think that my education was relevant to India alone. I cannot overstate how excellently the courses and curriculum are created. The lecturers and the course framework allowed me to immediately fit in where originally nothing felt familiar. Yes, there are indeed differences in approach and intervention, but nothing that SVT did not prepare me for.    I do not know whether you recall Rekha ma'am from when I saw you about my HCPC registration a year ago. You immediately assisted me with all the paperwork that were needed. It took me a long, gruelling year to get my registration, largely because I was not exactly sure how to fill it out. Even though it took a while, I was comforted by the knowledge that my credentials—including my college degree—was sufficient for my application to be approved.   I would want to express my appreciation and provide the offer to assist any students from our university who are traveling from India in successfully completing their application and, hopefully, receiving registration as soon as possible. I'm hoping that the mistakes I made because of my lack of knowledge may help the rest of our students to be HCPC registered more quickly.   All due to everyone at SVT college, I am now a Senior Dietitian in my first job post registration in the UK. If you would want to signpost my email address to students who would be interested in learning more about the interview process, I would be pleased to do so. Please let me know how I can help and support my university.   A big thank you to everyone at SVT college!

I typed and deleted many a sentences in an attempt to put it as beautifully and strongly the emotion that attaches me with SVT. The pen is mightier than the sword as it is said, but I don’t think I am going to do justice in these few words for the life my education with SVT has earned me. I stumbled into SVT as a confused teenager not knowing what path life has in store. The bumps and speed breakers made me what I am today. The hours and hours that we invested in projects and presentations and culinary cooking delights have all paid off. Well I must add. My teachers are the reason I am what I am today. My diction, my personality, my knowledge (which was flooded and loaded with information from all sides) and my adaptability - I have may have graduated with a degree in dietetics but I was made number one in every path a woman needs to take in life including child psychology (and how I thank you today when I can deal adapt fully with my two girls). My life is an integration of all the biochemistry, human physiology, food science, nutrition and microbiology that my loving hard working zestful teachers weaved so beautifully for me.  A big shout out to Dr. Jagmeet Madan, Dr. Godhia, Dr. Ramaswamy – I love you and THANK you for making me ‘me’

Courses offered at SVT College have been fantastic providing the best of both academic education and practical experience to test the knowledge. I am very proud to have studied in SVT College and specialized in Dietetics and Nutrition as my core subject. The course curriculum has been very comprehensive and applicable to my work and professional life. The training provided during the practicals and final year placements have prepared me to embark on my career very confidently. The knowledge, skill set and individual personality that I gained and developed at the University have been second to none. I would highly recommend this University and its courses to all prospective students. Following my education at SVT, I acquired Master’s Degree in Dietetics and Nutrition from MS University of Baroda. My first work experience began as a Research Dietitian at Tata Memorial Hospital. I then flew overseas for my Doctorate Degree which I acquired from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. Since then I have been working as a Dietitian and a Senior Researcher in this field. I studied at SVT College from 1993 to 1998, it has been a long time however I still remember those days so often and will always hold a special place in my heart and in my life. Those were the best College days with best of friends and teachers, with whom I am still in touch with. Studying at SVT College have been the golden days of my life and I will cherish them always!!

We entered as young naive girls, and walked out as confident professionals. I not only gained knowledge, but learnt life lessons, morals and ethics that will be a part of me life long. Today as a remedial educator and counselor, I'm not only using the knowledge I gained through subjects like remedial education, children with special needs and counselling, but the passion and commitment with which the teachers taught, has made me a better professional committed to my work.

I have studied Early Childhood Care and Education at the Department of Human Development, SVT College of Home Science. The three year journey had been full of excitement and a tremendous amount of learning experiences. The hands on experiences provided by the department through various internships with a varying group of individuals from young children to the elderly not only helped me to grow professionally but also personally. The guidance and unconditional support given by the faculty will forever be cherished.

When I reflect on my three years in the Resource management department for the Hospitality & Tourism course, I conclude that the experience not only made me a better person, but also prepared me in unpredictable ways for my career. Through workshops with incredibly supportive classmates, and professors who were nothing short of champions, I was challenged to discover a voice I didn’t know I had. There is something motivational and special in this environment which made us study and enjoy co-curricular activities. Participating and organising events of festivals and sports gave me a different enjoyable experience. It feels proud to be a part of such an institution and I'm thankful to the department, faculty and each & everyone for making us strong enough for professional careers ahead.

I would like to place my appreciation for the quality of education provided to me during my Bachelors in Interior Design and Resource Management in SVT College of Home Science. The course of study along with practical exposure to market surveys and opportunities to exhibit our work during annual design exhibitions hosted by our college, laid a strong foundation of knowledge in materials, concepts, design and execution. The campus, infrastructure and faculty provided a wholesome and creative environment that helped me grow as a designer. I specially want to thank the dedicated and distinguished professors like Mrs. Chetna Raje and Mrs. Hemani Malhotra for their constant guidance and support throughout and after my graduation.

S.V.T College of Home Science, (Empowered Autonomous Status) is a place of learning, fun, culture, lore, literature and many such life preaching activities. I think the experience and the exposure to different teaching styles has given me a different perspective about life and what I really want to do. Our faculty of the Department of Mass Communication and Extension always believed in helping and guiding its students and it was no different during the placement season. My department teachers always provided me with the assistance that I required for my overall development and to improve my technical knowledge. I will always be grateful to them for providing me a platform of practical learning and preparing me for the corporate life.
