Program : Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education

Early Childhood Care and Education is a program offered by the Department of Human Development. This specialization trains learners in providing an enriching environment for care and development of infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers and children in the early primary grades (Birth to 8 years). Implementation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood program to help children attain optimal development is the focal area of this program. It trains students to plan and implement age appropriate activities for the children and a viable curriculum for educational readiness of young children.

Duration : 3 years – Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education

Eligibility : HSC in Home Science / Science / Arts / Commerce

The Department of Human Development offers various courses which acquaint students with the trend of normal growth and development from conception to old age. “This Interdisciplinary field of study is devoted to the understanding of the holistic developmental changes that children, adolescents and adults experience throughout their life span.” It trains the students to understand human behavior and handle problems at various stages of growth through theory and extensive practical work.

  1. Identify and describe fundamental concepts and skills required in Developmental Psychology across life span and Early Childhood Care and Education
  2. Demonstrate skills for applying pedagogical knowledge in planning and implementing of developmentally appropriate programs, curriculum and learning environment in day care and early years’ setups
  3. Identify the factors and analyse the implications of gender and diversity on the life of an individual
  4. Apply a strength based approach towards helping individuals to deal with developmental issues and concerns in day care and early years setups
  5. Communicate effectively with various stakeholders and the community at large to increase involvement in Early Childhood Care and Education
  6. Identify and critically evaluate the theoretical and developmental foundations in Human Development
  7. Use relevant technology and other contemporary mediums of instruction for professional growth and development in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education
  8. Analyse the significance of education and intervention solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate the knowledge of and need for sustainable development (Science for life, EVS, Carbon accounting, Systems approach to Health)
  9. Demonstrate ethical values, scientific attitude and creative thought processes in designing viable programs for the community in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education
  10. Recognize the need and ability to engage in independent and lifelong learning processes in the broadest context of technological change to work collaboratively and productively in groups ((NSS, CC Clubs, IKS, Departmental exhibitions & activities like Khelutsav, Internship))
