YOGA is a discipline to improve or develop one’s inherent power in a balanced manner. It offers the means to attain complete self-realization.

YOGA is a physical, mental, or spiritual practice that originated from India and it describes the complete way of life. YOGA is not all about exercise but to discover the sense and identify yourself.

The idea of international YOGA Day was proposed by the Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi during the speech at UNGA. As 21 June is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in different parts of the world, PM NARENDRA MODI suggested 21 June as INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY.

Department of Food, Nutrition and Dietetics, Sir Vithaldas Thackersey College of Home Science (Empowered Autonomous Status), offers a course titled ‘Yoga for Health and Wellbeing’ as one of the Discipline Specific Elective Courses.  The department has signed an MOU with the ‘The Yoga Institute’ Santacruz, Mumbai, for the academic purpose, and the trained YOGA teachers from the institute conduct the course for the students.

In collaboration with ‘The Yoga Institute’, the Department of Food, Nutrition and Dietetics plan to celebrate the International Yoga Day on 21 June 2020. The renowned personalities from ‘The Yoga Institute’ will grace the occasion with their presence and will highlight the importance of Yoga in day to day life. The trained Yoga teachers will conduct a session on ‘Aasanas’. The students and the faculty of Sir Vithaldas Thackersey College of Home Science (Empowered Autonomous Status) will participate in this event.
