The Department of Media, Communication and Development orients students to various dimensions of media, communication and development for change It focuses on contemporary development concerns, advocacy and communication for sustainable social change, regulation of media and communication.

Important areas include internet and digital platforms, ethics and press freedom, video production and broadcasting, extension education, corporate social responsibility and media management, behavior change communication, training and capacity building, media monitoring, audience segmentation and responses, monitoring and evaluation of national flagship programs, research and internship.

Duration : 3 years + 1 Honors
Eligibility : HSC in Home Science / Science / Arts / Commerce

* student leaving after one year gets a Certificate after the successful completion of first year
* student leaving after two years gets a Diploma after the successful completion of second year

An Alma mater is a Latin phrase for a university, school, or college that one formerly attended. It means a nourishing mother. This is a perfect explanation for what SVT has been for most of us. It is a known fact that the life of any structure depends upon the strength of its foundation, or the life of a tree depends upon the strength of the soil it gets its nourishment from. Similarly, the success of one’s life depends upon the strength of the knowledge and values it gets from the various institutes he or she goes through from home to school and to its university. SVT has played a major role in my journey, I am who I am today with the values I carry from my alma mater (my second mother). Being a women I get to play many roles in my life at home and at work and I manage them well because of the overall development I had at SVT. SVT, not only gives its students the knowledge it needs but also an ability to multi task all the various aspects in life. I personally was privileged to not only be a student for 3 years but also a faculty member for 2 and give back to my mother the support I received from her. A special mention of my Department of Mass Communication and Extension that specializes in creating young talent with skills in media and social awareness. Managing both medium with great responsibility. A big thank you to all teachers and supporting staff for the knowledge, love and strength we have received in life.

My Journey at SVT College of Home Science(Empowered Autonomous Status), began as a 15 year old in June 1995 straight out of school, unsure of what life had to offer and ended 5 years later in Year 2000 all ready to take on the world outside. In 2003, I completed my Masters from Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication and have been part of the world of media from then on. Starting off as a Media Planner, then moving into the research teams at Star News, MTV & VH1 and Disney, I found my calling in the world of Media& Entertainment in Research teams focusing on Consumer Strategy and Market Insights marrying my two passions for Content and People. My magical journey at The Walt Disney Company began in Feb 2010 at their offices in Mumbai and then continued in Singapore since Jan 2013. At present Ilead the Research team for Disney’s Content Sales & Distribution businesses across South APAC. I’m grateful for the never-ending support of my incredible husband, my lovely 8-year-old boy, my awesome parents, my forever friends and cheerleading extended family. The seeds for my ability to dream big were sown in the late 1990s by our lovely inspirational professors of our Department – Dr. Chande, Dr. Alexander, Ms Vipra Banerjee and Ms Kamini Pradhan besides many others across the campus. Thanks to social media, they continue to be with us on our journey. SVT has a special place in my heart since it gave us the right foundation and values to focus on our ‘Ikigai’our reason for being or the things that make one’s life worthwhile. Thank you for this honour on being a Star Alumni!

S.V.T College of Home Science, (Empowered Autonomous Status) is a place of learning, fun, culture, lore, literature and many such life preaching activities. I think the experience and the exposure to different teaching styles has given me a different perspective about life and what I really want to do. Our faculty of the Department of Mass Communication and Extension always believed in helping and guiding its students and it was no different during the placement season. My department teachers always provided me with the assistance that I required for my overall development and to improve my technical knowledge. I will always be grateful to them for providing me a platform of practical learning and preparing me for the corporate life.
