Research Cell

Sir Vithaldas Thackersey College of Home Science (Empowered Autonomous Status), S.N.D.T Women’s University,Juhu, Mumbai has created a research cell with a Memorandum of Understanding with Kasturba Health Medical Research Centre, Mumbai. The vision of the college is to foster an atmosphere to promote higher education and research among students and faculty. This cell will focus to enrich faculty and students with latest expertise and skills in their area of specialization and interest to ensure their optimal growth. The activities planned by the cell are aimed to sustain interest in academic programs and enhance the scope of learning.

The College offers the following programs in the Graduate Programs and Post Graduate, Diploma and Certificate Courses as Self Financed Programs:

Graduate Programs:

  1. Food Nutrition and Dietetics
  2. Textiles and Apparel Designing
  3. Human Development with Specialization in Early Childhood Education and Developmental Counselling
  4. Resource Management with Specialization in Hospitality & Tourism Management and Interior Designing
  5. Mass Communication & Extension Education

Post Graduate Programs and Diploma & Certificate Programs:

  1. M.Sc. Specialized Dietetics (Specializations in Diabetes & Cardiac Nutrition, Pediatric Nutrition and Renal Nutrition)
  2. M.Design (Fashion Design)
  3. Diploma in Fashion Design
  4. Certificate and Diploma in Computer Aided Interior Space Design & Management

In order to promote research and development activities, the college extends its full support to students/faculty/staff. The Cell encourages members of the staff to publish their works in leading journals and to present papers at national and international conferences. Our Faculty and students have participated and won prizes at national and international level conferences with their Oral paper and poster presentations.

Functions of the Research Cell:

  • To co-ordinate research activities between various departments, faculty members and students
  • To develop faculty research priorities in interdisciplinary areas
  • To establish collaboration with other universities, research centres, and industries
  • To identify potential projects/sources of funds
  • Implementation, follow-up, progress and monitoring of on-going projects

Objectives of the research cell:

  • To create interest and awareness among faculty and students in research
  • To motivate staff to enroll for M.Phil and Ph.D Programs
  • To encourage the faculty to undertake research projects (UGC and Sponsored)
  • To plan and conduct faculty and student level workshops and staff development activities on research-related issues
  • To assist the faculty and students to participate in various research competitions- National and International
  • To encourage staff members and students to publish papers for publishing in National and reputed International Conferences/Journals
  • To develop strategies for collaborative research activities with other institutions/ Industries
  • To assist for applying and getting funds for conducting Seminar/Workshop/Faculty Development Programs from various available funding agencies
  • To maintain and disseminate current information about relevant research policy areas and initiatives in government
