Established in 1959, was the first institution in Mumbai to offer Home Science at a degree level. It is also the first college of S.N.D.T. Women's University to be granted autonomous status from the year 1995-96 in the state of Maharashtra.

About the organizing Institution:

Sir Vithaldas Thackersey College of Home Science is an Autonomous and conducted college of S.N.D.T. Women’s University, Mumbai. It is the first Home Science College in Maharashtra to be granted the Autonomous status and has been reaccredited by NAAC, with Grade A (2014 -2019). It has also been honored as College with Potential for Academic Excellence by University Grants Commission for three consecutive phases. Presently the college is in CPE Phase III (2015 – 2020).

ABOUT IQAC:

In accordance with the NAAC guidelines, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was established in 2009. The cell strives to initiate academic and administrative activities for enriching quality sustenance and enhancement of the institution. The IQAC cell endeavors to prepare a multidisciplinary integrated curriculum with a focus on capacity building of faculty and students, developing entrepreneurship potential, strengthening industry-academia linkages keeping the community and national needs in mind.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR:

Since the last decade, teaching methodologies, techniques as well as spaces have undergone innumerable changes. Focus is given to learner-centric teaching experiences with the use of creative and contemporary methodologies and conducive environments. The seminar explores various learning spaces such as virtual classrooms, incubation centers, open learning sources, research projects, etc which an educator can innovatively use to create a multidimensional learning experience for today’s learners.
The Seminar is designed for those with a penchant for teaching young learners during their most formative years. The seminar aims to focus on 21st Century teaching skills and spaces that will provide participants with new and innovative teaching approaches used in the global teaching scenario.

Aim and Objectives:

  2. Develop skills to teach today’s global classrooms
  3. Help know your strengths and interests to become better educators
  4. Managing challenges in Inclusive teaching
  5. Understanding concepts of e-content writing

Outcomes: At the end of this seminar participants will develop a creative perspective and confident approach towards innovating teaching. The teacher will learn use of innovative tools and techniques for creation of a conducive learning environment.

The College has developed curriculum and activities designed to bring changes in the students’ thoughts, ideas, attitudes, interests, emotions, personality and character. It believes in the value of empowerment to girl students to excel in their field of education. The curriculum offers the students choices of courses to select from core courses to general elective courses from other specializations to foster a holistic approach to development and deeper understanding on issues and challenges.

The College has adapted to the changes required globally for education and develop competencies in the students. The College strives to provide education to all girls from different cultural, religious and socio-economic backgrounds to regular and differently abled students.

Activities for students have been planned in the curriculum to develop the leadership quality in students. NSS activities have been conducted, special camps and training programs organized for students to inculcate values of team work, motivation and leadership.

The College has integrated technology enabled teaching learning process in the curriculum. With the advent of technology and its usage globally, the students are trained to use computer programs, software, information and communication based systems. This helps the students to learn, integrate and use technology to their advantage.

Community development programs, working with women from weaker economic section, and village adopted for training the people is integrated in the curriculum. Every specialization prepares students to promote good practices of their department to teach members of community on new skills, sustainable practices, equality, social justice, literacy skills for employability and development.
